Like Caesar Nero, Putin Sees Not His Fall

Ceasar Nero, like Putin, failed to see
his friends hate debasement of currency
that new impoverished oligarchs will
conspire to fiscal disruption kill.

Men flatter tyrants as sycophants do
making invisible what kings must rue.
Nero fiddled while the Roman slums burned
so he can build more monuments he yearned.

Likewise, Nero murdered all his critics
deeming autocracy good politics,
yet Nero's Cohortēs Praetorian
played lots on who'd slay this despotic man.

Pundits on Putin's War all look askance
since Putin, like Nero, failed his best chance.

Dear poets,

 

Mark Twainm Samuel Clemmons once said, "History does not repeat itself, but it does rhyme."  And, what's going on with Russia's white bespoke Czar is akin to the inability of Caesar Nero to see his allies would not suffer his erros which cost them their fortunes for long. Nero didn't see it coming which is why his foes say nothing since a failed coup would be disastrous to all oligarchs everywhere. The weakness of the Caesars where they deemed themselves inviolate and often even divine. 

 

Nero's final words were "Too late! This is fidelity!" He died on 9 June 68,BC the anniversary of the death of his first wife Claudia Octavia, whose death he ordered as well as his own mother,,and he was buried in the Mausoleum of the Domitii Ahenobarbi, in what is now the Villa Borghese (Pincian Hill) area of Rome.

 

From Julious Caesar's eulogy spoken by Marc Antony and written by Wm. Shakespeare,

I come to bury Caesar, not to praise him.

The evil that men do lives after them;

The good is oft interred with their bones;

I am no prophet but some things even a blind man can see.
